15 Great YouTube Channels for Social Studies Teachers

After we posted about YouTube channels for math teachers we received a couple of requests for compiling a similar list for social studies teachers. Below are some of our favourite channels in this regard based mainly on our previous reviews and teachers feedback.  These channels provide video content that covers various topics from history and geography to culture and world news.  We have also turned this list into an infographic that you can access and download for free from this page.

1- Google Arts and Culture


Learn about the events that shaped the world and discover collections curated by experts from the most famous museums.

2- The National Geographic Kids


Provides exciting video content to help kids learn about cool science, awesome animals, funny pets and many more.

3-  Mr.Beat’s Social Studies Channel


Created by a teacher, this channel provides a wide variety of video content related to social studies.

4- CrashCourse


Created by by brothers John and Hank, CrashCourse features video lessons covering different topics including world history, US history, literature, ecology, chemistry, psychology and many more.

5- Smithsonian Education


‘The Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access provides leadership in education at the Smithsonian and produces a variety of programs, services, and resources for the education and museum communities.’

6- TED Ed



‘TED Ed channel provides some amazing educational video content to use in your social studies class. Most of videos are short five  minute long animations covering a plethora of topics from language to history.’

7- That Was History

‘That Was History is an educational, history channel featuring videos about our world's history. We discuss topics from a range of categories including Military History, World History, US History, Political History, Entertainment History and more.’
