3 Free Lesson Planners for Teachers

After posting about lesson plan resources for teachers, we received a request from one of our readers asking about lesson planners, so we decided to share with you our favourite free tools for planning lessons.Several platforms now provide lesson planning features  including Google Classroom and Edmodo, however, if you are looking for easy to use and simple lesson planners , the tools below are great to start with. They will enable you to create your lesson plans section by section, add rich media such as text, pictures and video files, collaborate with your peers and share your resources with your students.

1- Planboard


This is an excellent lesson planner from Chalk. ‘Planboard makes it easy to create lessons in the intuitive online editor. Add in attachments, photos, and videos to bring your lessons to life. Then build lesson templates to cut prep time even further, and jump right into the classroom.’ Use the Standards Progression tool to see ‘curriculum progress for each class, and which standards have been covered. Planboard keeps your classroom on track.’

2- Standards Planner


Standards Planner is a platform where you can access tons of free resources to use in your instruction. It also enables you to build your own resources and share them with your students. You can create custom events, color-coordinate your courses, drag and drop resources, create customized calendars and many more.  ‘Once your schedule is setup you can make it public for students to use, ideal for a flipped classroom experience. You can also send your pacing to administrators and even use it to keep parents informed.’ Standards Planner is great for collaborative work, you can use it to connect with other teachers, view peers schedules, share units and resources, and engage in real-time chat on documents. ‘With the click of a button your account can be fully compatible with Google. Anything you do between the two systems will be automatically updated for your convenience.’

2- LearnBoost


LearnBoost offers an excellent tool to help teachers create beautiful lesson plans. You can start building your lesson plan  section by section and with the click of a button you will be able to attach Common Core State Standards to your lesson plans. You can enrich your lesson plans with media files. pictures, documents and any material you want. There is also an Evaluation section you can use to reflect on your planning and make sure your lessons meet your goals.
